October 1, 2016 Child Drowns in Apartment Complex Swimming Pool

An 11-month-old child, under the supervision of her mother and grandmother, wandered away from her apartment and fell into the apartment complex swimming pool. Several minutes later, the grandmother found her in the pool, removed her and administered CPR until EMS personnel arrived on the scene. The child was transported to the hospital and survived for several days before she died from near-drowning complications. According to the mother, the child, who was just learning to walk, opened the apartment door and wandered to the pool without the mother or grandmother seeing her.
