Man Drowns in Apartment Complex Swimming Pool

case12_image_a

An adult male drowned in this apartment complex swimming pool in the presence of other patrons. There was no lifeline separating the deep end from the shallow end. The man crossed over the transition point and lost his footing because of the slope of the bottom and began to struggle at the surface of the water before he submerged to the bottom. There was no rescue equipment available to provide assistance to him while he struggled at the surface, nor was a shepherd’s crook available to recover him from the bottom. Once he was rescued by patrons, there was no telephone available to summon assistance from Fire and EMS personnel. Bystander CPR was administered by patrons prior to the arrival of EMS and resuscitation efforts were continued at the scene and enroute to the hospital. The patient was pronounced dead at the hospital.
