A 23-year-old Canadian woman broke her neck when she dove into the shallow section of swimming pool at a resort in Jamaica. When she hit the bottom and floated to the surface, she was able to turn herself over onto her back and float until help arrived. The Lifeguard, with the assistance of a bus boy, removed her from the water and placed her into a wheel chair and then wheeled her into the nurse’s station. No immobilization was provided of the victim’s neck or spine. She was transported by ambulance to the hospital. The woman is now a quadriplegic as a result of this injury.
